De prijs voor beste actrice ging naar Helen Mirren voor haar rol in The Queen. Zij versloeg onder meer Carice van Houten die genomineerd was voor haar rol in Zwartboek. Beste acteur was Sasson Gabai in The Band's Visit. Anton Corbijn greep naast de hoofdprijs in de categorie European Film Academy Discovery voor de regie van Control. De awards werden voor de twintigste keer uitgereikt. Volgend jaar verhuist de ceremonie naar Kopenhagen.
